Family Ornament Tutorial
Some variations of the ornament.
Roll a sheet of white clay to about
1/4" thick. Cut out a 2" x 3"
rectangle. This will be the base
for your ornament. Roll 2 white
balls of clay and attach as shown
to the base.
Roll 2 more white balls of clay and attach as
shown. You now have the heads of your
snowmen. If you would like to vary the sizes of
the heads, you can do so. This ornament is for a
family of four. You can adjust the number of
heads as needed for the size of the family. When
making more than 3 children snowmen, you will
want to make the heads smaller so that the
ornament does not get too large. I like to stay
within the size of the rectangle.
Trim excess clay from around
your heads as shown. Save the
excess clay to use for future
ornament backings.
Roll a log of white clay and flatten
around the bottom of each head.
These are the snowmen's scarves
and where you will put the names
when you personalize the ornament.
Roll 2 small logs of green clay and
shape over the children's heads as
shown. Roll a rope of red clay, fold it
on top of itself, twist and attach to the
bottom
Roll small ropes of green and attach to
hats to make the brims. With your needle
or needle tool , make indentations as
shown.
Roll a small log of gold and attach to the mother's head. Make the brim the same way as
the green brims but make it a little bit wider.
Using black clay, shape a small
square and attach to the remaining
head.
Roll a small rope of black clay
and attach for the brim of the
hat.
Attach green leaves and red
berries as shown. Roll out a sheet
of yellow clay and use a cookie
cutter to cut out a star. Attach as
shown.
Roll tiny orange or pumpkin colored
balls and attach as noses to all the
snowmen. Roll 2 balls of white clay
and attach as shown for hands.
Attach green leaves and
berries to the bottom of
the star.
Add blush to all the snowmen's cheeks. I
use powdered blush from the make-up
counter. Use it with a very light touch or
your snowman will look sunburned. Your
ornament is now ready for a hook and a trip
to the oven.
I use paper clips for hooks.
These are family pins.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. I have been making personalized ornaments
for many many years and this ornament is one of the most popular ones . I
think anyone who receives this as a gift from you will truly appreciate the work
and love you put into making it for them.
