Hearts
My Mother will be 79 shortly after Valentine's Day, so I decided to make some hearts
for her. She has lost most of her sight and hearing to macular degeneration and
Meniere's Disease so I tried to make the hearts interesting to touch.
This first group of hearts was created in the past month when the entire family was
battling the flu. I had the extra added bonus of an ear infection. My, Mother, the only
one of us who had her flu shot, ended up in the hospital for 8 days. She just came
home and is on the mend. I will be doing small hearts for a necklace soon: one heart
for each day of the week.
A gold heart to
represent Mom's
heart of gold
An antiqued heart
because we both
love old china.
Lilies of the
Valley, Mom's
favorite flower
We live in peach
country.
(yes, a peach, not an
orange. This is the
color of the juiciest
peaches fresh picked
off the tree. Delicious!)
Bright and full of
textures
Bright and very
smooth to the
touch
My siblings and I. The oldest
in the middle, 2 youngest on
the ends. I am second from
the left and my sister is
second from the right. We
don't look quite this funny in
real life. My Mom can now
reach out and touch us!
This heart is to cherish the memory of my
only sister, Anne, who lost her battle with
breast cancer in 1998 at the very young
age of 41.

I made the heart in my sister's favorite
color and looped the pink ribbon around
to the back to make and A.
